Innovative agriculture, it is not an oxymoron but it is the future if not the present thanks to the numerous companies that are increasingly committed to reduce water consumption, to develop hydroponics, to produce quality vegetables and nickel free. To change direction given that the methods used so far have proved unsustainable if projected into the next decades.

Innovative agriculture in the world

May the winning recipe be that which combines technology, structured finance and new business models, the United States understood this before us and we can already see dozens of authoritative examples developed overseas. On this side of the Atlantic Ocean, however, there is a bleak clearing, and one of the few players who work with this methodology is Beyond Venture, which for over 10 years has been committed to support social innovation in our country.

Innovative agriculture in Italy

Oltre Venture enthusiastically supported the entrepreneur's idea Luigi Galimberti to create also in Italy a system of production of very good quality vegetables through hydroponic technology; together in 2016 they founded Ball This agricultural company is based in Maremma aims to build a system of technological greenhouses, the largest in our country at the start.

Ball apply technology "in the field" and supports them with the best management techniques in order to produce more with less. It sounds like a slogan but it can be reality and it is there single solution to guarantee food for all despite the scarcity of resources and increasingly overwhelming climate change.

The positive outcome of the project's feasibility plan convinced the founders to open the company's capital to third party investors to support the creation of the first greenhouse of about 13 hectares in Maremma. They were thus collected 7 million of capital from important Italian investors and obtained 12 million in financing from ICCREA bank. With these capital, the first greenhouse will be built which will employ over 100 new jobs, and which will soon be ready to produce tomatoes, lettuce and aromatic plants with zero chemical residues and nickel free.

The model that in Ball it materializes is not only "win win" but it is "win x 4" because it rewards e satisfies the entrepreneur, investors, workers and consumers. Like this company, others are being born, even in Italy there are dozens of agricultural startups with promising ideas, we cheer for them, so that they can give the right push for innovative agriculture.
